Cane Sugar
Classic Sugar Cookies: Ingredients: 1 cup unsalted butter, very soft. 1-1/2 cups Dixie Crystals granulated sugar. 1 large egg. 2 teaspoons vanilla extract. 1/2 teaspoon salt. 2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour (Spoon & Sweep method: Use a spoon to fill measuring cup with flour. Scooping measuring cup directly into flour bag will firmly pack flour resulting in too much flour for recipe). 1/2 teaspoon baking soda. 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar. Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 350°F. 2. Beat butter until very light and creamy. Add sugar and continue mixing until light and fluffy. Add egg, vanilla and salt and beat until well combined. 3. Sift flour, baking soda and cream of tartar together and add to butter mixture. Mix until dough forms; do not over mix. 4. Scoop batter into 2-tablespoon rounds. Place well apart on parchment-lined cookie sheets. Sprinkle with additional sugar, if desired. For cutout cookies, roll dough 1/4-inch thick on a powdered sugar coated surface. Cut into shapes and place on prepared cookie sheets. 5. Place in oven and bake until edges are very lightly golden, about 9 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.
