Zatarain's Spanish Rice

Weeknight meals just got a whole lot easier thanks to Zatarain's Spanish Rice. Prepared in under thirty minutes, this rice mix makes a delicious side dish to complement grilled or roasted beef, chicken or pork. Prefer an easy meal? Combine cooked rice with chicken or vegetables and serve to hungry family and friends.

More than 1,500 years ago, North African immigrants brought rice to Spain, where the crop thrived. It wasn't long before Spanish cooks were simmering rice with onions, bell pepper, garlic and tomatoes to create what is known in the U.S. today as Spanish rice.

Ingredients

ENRICHED LONG GRAIN PARBOILED RICE (RICE, IRON, NIACIN THIAMINE MONONITRATE, FOLIC ACID) ONION, SALT, RED AND GREEN BELL PEPPER, SPICES (INCLUDING RED PEPPER), SUGAR, YEAST EXTRACT, TAMARI SOY SAUCE (SOYBEAN, SALT), GARLIC & CELERY SEED.

Directions

Stove Top Directions:

Cook: Mix 1-1/2 cups water, 1 can (14-1/2 oz.) diced tomatoes, rice mix and 1 Tbsp. butter (optional) in 2-quart saucepan until well blended. Bring to boil. Reduce heat to low. Cover. Simmer 25 minutes or until rice is tender.

Enjoy: Remove from heat. Let stand 5 minutes. Fluff with fork serving.

Pair: Serve with pork chops, shrimp or steak. Microwave ovens vary; adjust cooking times as needed. Cooking times are based on an 1100 watt microwave oven.

CAUTION: Bowl and contents will be very hot. Use Potholders when removing from microwave. Microwave Directions

Microwave on HIGH 5 minutes. Stir.

Microwave on MEDIUM (50% power) 16 minutes or until rice is tender, stirring occasionally. Let stand in microwave 5 minutes. Fluff with Fork Before Serving.
