Decide How Much You Want: Each serving equals about 1/2 cup. 2 Servings: 2/3 cup water; 1 tbsp. margarine (or butter or olive oil); 1/4 tsp. salt (optional); 1/3 cup milk; 2/3 cup potato flakes. 4 Servings: 1-1/4 cups water; 2 tbsp. margarine (or butter or olive oil); 1/2 tsp. salt (optional); 2/3 cup milk; 1-1/3 cups potato flakes. 6 Servings: 1-3/4 cups water; 3 tbsp. margarine (or butter or olive oil); 3/4 tsp. salt (optional); 1 cup milk; 2 cups potato flakes. 12 Servings: 3-1/2 cups water; 6 tbsp. margarine (or butter or olive oil); 1-1/4 tsp. salt (optional); 2 cups milk; 4 cups potato flakes. Extra Flavorful Potatoes: Substitute chicken broth for water and omit salt. Garlic Mashed Potatoes: Substitute garlic salt for salt. Or, add a spoonful of garlic from a jar of diced garlic. Or, add one clove diced fresh garlic. Reduced-Fat Directions: Use skim milk and reduce margarine amounts by half. The potatoes made with the reduced-fat directions contain 50% less fat than the regular directions. Reduced-fat directions: 3 g fat per serving. Regular directions: 6 g fat per serving.
