Beeswax has exceptional lubricating natural oils that make it simple to open and close the drysuit zipper as well as protect it in ways that other lubricants just cannot. There are three primary parts to beeswax. The first is palmitate, an ester of the ubiquitous fatty acid palmitic acid, essentially an oil with excellent lubricating properties. The second is palmitoleate, a different ester of palmitoleic acid, a fatty acid that is closely linked to the first and is also found in naturally occurring oils. Oleate esters, which are oleic acid's esters (salts), are the third component. Oleic acid is another fatty acid. Olive oil is a nice illustration of oleic acid.
