1. Open air vents on grill and arrange charcoal in a pile in the center of the grill. 2. Apply lighter fluid over the charcoal, use 1.6 fluid ounces (47 milliliters) per pound of charcoal. Light the charcoal immediately. The lighter fluid will burn off cleanly in a few minutes leaving the charcoal fully ignited. 3. In approximately 10-15 minutes, or when the charcoal is predominately ashed over, spread charcoal evenly. Wait 5 minutes and begin cooking.
