There's nothing cute about doggie doing it all over the house, though, so be firm and be consistent. It may take a lot of self-discipline, but in the end it will help you both. Tips: Designate one spot, away from food or bedding, for bathroom visits. If he or she makes a mistake, don't punish - it just creates more anxiety. Instead, when you see them conducting business outside the perimeter, pick them up and place them on the pad. Then praise. The second your dog touches the pad, start getting excited. Praise him or her to the skies when they do their thing, and then give them a little treat. They just want to please you, and positive reinforcement goes a long way. During training, stick to a schedule, and immediately take the dog to the training pad after he or she finishes eating, after playing, or after any other stimulation. Place pad on floor with tissue side up in an area away from pet's bedding or food. Place your pet on the pad to get accustomed to it. Reward your pet when he or she uses the pad. If your pet goes elsewhere, immediately bring him or her back to the pad. Continue this process. Once your pet is trained to use pad indoors, follow the same process to train your pet to go outside. Dispose of properly.
