Our filters are tested at independent air filter testing facilities that are members of the National Air Filtration Association (NAFA). These test facilities utilize a true and proven scientific method for air filter testing created by the American Society of heating, refrigeration, and air conditioning engineers, ASHRAE 52.2 -2007. Some filter manufacturers use their own rating system, which is not approved as an industry standard. What is a merv rating? Minimum efficiency reporting value, or MERV for short, is a filter rating system devised by Ashrae, the American society of heating, refrigeration, and air conditioning engineers, to standardized and simplify air filter efficiency ratings for the public. The higher the MERV rating, the higher the effectiveness of the air filter. Simply stated, a MERV 13 filters will remove larger amounts of small particles from the air than a MERV 8 filter. MERV ratings allow you to effectively compare one type or brand of filter to another. For example, the EPA guidance for indoor air quality in schools recommends filters between MERV 8 and MERV 13.
